Evergreen Gnome Step-By-Step Instructions

1.       Your kit will include about 4 pounds of evergreen, 20 zip ties, 1 tomato cage, 1 red felt gnome hat and 1 nose. The greenery you will be using is meant to be kept outdoors.

2.       You will need a pruner and a wire cutter for your tools.

3.       You will start by turning your tomato cage on its round end. We will primarily be using zip ties and just to make sure we all know how to use the zip ties, you will insert the tip into the flat end of the zip tie. You will hear it “zip” and you will not be able to undo it unless you cut it.  The branches need to curve outwards, make sure the top of the branches to the outside. We want the gnome to have a nice “skirt”.

4.       Be sure the zip ties are tight as the greenery will shrink as it dries.

5.       Take some of your greenery and zip tie it to the 2nd ring. You can cover your ring completely or if you would like a fuller fronted gnome you can leave the backside open. This would be appropriate if you are putting it up against your porch or garage.

6.       Fill the 2nd ring with a little more than half of your greenery.

7.       Cut the ends of the zip ties as you go.

8.       If your branches extend beyond the 3rd ring, feel free to zip tie them on to the cage.

9.       Move up to the 3rd ring and repeat the same process.

10.   Zip tie the tops of your branches to the “legs” of the cage as you get closer to the top of the cage. This will allow your hat to lay smooth over the top of the cage.

11.   Gather any stems you may have near the top of the cage and zip tie them all together. Or if your stems are lower, just zip tie the tip of the cage.

12.   Pull the hat over the top of the cage, with the seem to the back.

13.   Wire the nose on with the wire provided.

14.   Get creative with your gnome! Give him or her a name, or go ahead and add mittens or boots.
